Journal to the Self - Open the door to greater awareness, insight and transformation with your pen and a notebook. In a small group, over 6 weeks, we'll explore 18 different journaling techniques, some taking just a few minutes. Each is designed to achieve specific results so that you can customize your journal according to your goals - health, personal growth, problem solving, navigating through transitions, creative expression, spiritual exploration and more. No prior writing or journaling experience is necessary. This is an educational group and your journal entries can stay safely private. We share observations and insights about the journaling process via a process known as a Reflection Write. CEU's are available to therapists who attend all sessions.
Journaling Through Transitions - Change is a part of life and brings questions, challenges and the opportunity to create a deeper meaning. Join this small 6 week writing group where each member has something in common – an important life transition. You will be invited to explore questions that are common to all changes and will be given the writing tools to help you work with the feelings that arise. Journaling can help bring calm and clarity to the process, turn thoughts and feelings into concrete action steps and affirm the strengths, skills and supports that will help you navigate. Deeper meaning, wisdom and resilience are often positive outcomes. Writing strategies will be taught including a process that makes it possible to safely share your observations without having to share your writing. This group is open to those who are currently facing a change that is calling for wisdom and skill – your journal will be your guide and map.
Your Brain on Ink - This is a 6 week journaling/expressive writing workshop where the newer findings in neuroscience meet the ancient art of creating and keeping a journal. Our brains can and do change and we can use that knowledge to create or reinforce the pathways that lead to greater resilience, vitality, peace of mind and improved well-being. Learn how to use your pen and journal in service of intention, attention, and action for your greater good. You are not asked to share your journal writing. I teach a sharing process that preserves privacy. CEU's are available for therapists who attend all sessions.
Sacred Scribe: Writing Spiritual Memoir - In this 6-week workshop we will explore through writing, the evolution of the spiritual and sacred in our lives. What does it mean? How do we foster it? How do we integrate new learnings, experiences, wisdom and guidance for our own well-being, and the well-being of others? You will receive structured writing prompts specifically designed to guide you through this process via journaling. By the end of this course you will have a wealth of material that can be kept "as is" or used as a launching pad for an essay or something longer. In class, all of your writings can stay safely private. We share observations and insights about the journaling process via a unique form of journal technique - the Reflection Write.
Private Instruction - is also available if workshop dates/times do not work well for you or if you'd like to create a journal to help with a specific challenge. Examples might include a health challenge whether acute or chronic, stressful transition period, loss/grieving or anything that is calling you to write at this time in your life. Groups can also arrange for a customized presentation depending on interest and learning objectives. Occasionally I offer half or full day workshops on a specific topic. Please check back for workshops that are open to the public in 2019. Some workshops are offered only to patients at a particular healthcare location. Also coming in the fall of 2019 is Journalversity - the new online wing of the Center for Journal Therapy. Deborah will be offering both self-paced evergreen courses that can be completed at your leisure as well as courses that will provide engagement with other students and Deborah.
